The Cobbler’s Monster – Jeff Amano

What do you get if you take Frankenstein, Pinocchio and Jewish mysticism and mix them together in an 1880’s America that has already discovered DNA. Something weird? Definitely! Something Good? Possibly. There are so many ideas and scientific techno babble here you wonder if the writer is either too clever by half or if the whole thing is an in-joke for genetics students. Once past the smug logic there is a competent and familiar feeling story and a hell of a chase at the end. The artwork is solid and atmospheric with some very fine snow scenes. It’s a Thumbs Up!
